In education, a teacher is a person who provides schooling for others. A teacher who facilitates education for an individual student may also be described as a personal tutor. The role of teacher is often formal and ongoing, carried out by way of occupation or profession at a school or other place of formal education. In many countries, a person who wishes to become a teacher at state-funded schools must first obtain professional qualifications or credentials from a university or college. These professional qualifications may include the study of pedagogy, the science of teaching. Teachers will have to continue their education after they receive their degree from a college or university. Teachers may use a lesson plan to facilitate student learning, providing a course of study which covers a standardized curriculum. A teacher's role may vary between cultures. Teachers teach literacy and numeracy, or some of the other school subjects. Other teachers may provide instruction in craftsmanship or vocational training, the Arts, religion or spirituality, civics, community roles, or life skills. In some countries, formal education can take place through home schooling.

Informal learning may be assisted by a teacher occupying a transient or ongoing role, such as a parent or sibling or within a family, or by anyone with knowledge or skills in the wider community setting.

Religious and spiritual teachers, such as gurus, mullahs, rabbis pastors/youth pastors and lamas may teach religious texts such as the Quran, Torah or Bible.

As a teacher, what can you do if you have a student who constantly interrupts others?
Q. I am studying to become a teacher. I want to always handle things in a sensitive way, and I do not want to ever make students feel badly, or hurt their feelings. Are you a teacher? If so, how would you handle it if a child keeps interrupting others repeatedly? How can this be remedied without embarrassing or demeaning the student? How would you handle it?

A. no matter the age you will address the class as a whole and let them know you will not allow interupting. typically students raise hands in order to be allowed to speak. this is a good rule all the way through high school. well with elementary age students some of the nicer teachers would very kindly say "please wait until ___ is done talking" or "no interupting please" or "raise hands please" and it is clear. you don't have to say the kid's name or anything like that. one other tip for elementary age is giving them something to work for. at the top of the board you could write "Ice-cream party" or something of the like and when the class is good they lose a letter. when the word is gone they get the treat, this could last maybe a… [cont.]

How much differently does a teacher grade based on how much he likes/dislikes the student?
Q. No matter what you say, there is some bias in there no matter what, even if the teacher claims to be totally objective. Any teachers on here that can input anything?

A. Completely disagree with your premise. You start with a huge assumption. that motivation of like/dislike is almost completely an adolescent developmental thing. Adults do not think this way - our motivation for being in that classroom is completely different - We have dedicated our lives to helping students achieve goals. When I see a paper of a student who has been a pill of late - I grade it with standards I created entirely seperate from who he is or what he has ever done. I grade based on the standards that are expected to be learned - *nothing* about that student affects it.
