Siddhārtha Gautama (Sanskrit: सिद्धार्थ गौतम; Pali: Siddhattha Gotama) was a spiritual teacher from ancient India who founded Buddhism. In most Buddhist traditions, he is regarded as the Supreme Buddha (P. sammāsambuddha, S. samyaksaṃbuddha) of our age, "Buddha" meaning "awakened one" or "the enlightened one." The time of his birth and death are uncertain: most early 20th-century historians dated his lifetime as c. 563 BCE to 483 BCE, but more recent opinion may be dating his death to between 411 and 400 BCE

Gautama, also known as Śākyamuni or Shakyamuni ("sage of the Shakyas"), is the key figure in Buddhism, and accounts of his life, discourses, and monastic rules are believed by Buddhists to have been summarized after his death and memorized by his followers. Various collections of teachings attributed to Gautama were passed down by oral tradition, and first committed to writing about 400 years later.

In Hinduism, Buddha is regarded as an avatar of the god Vishnu; whom Puranas say attempted to lead beings away from the Vedic religion.. He is also regarded as a prophet in the Bahá'í faith.

If Buddha were to really focus on the field of science like physics, will He excel and outcompete Einstein?
Q. Hi. This is just a thought experiment since Buddha most likely won't involved himself in the field of practical knowledge like mathematics and science. But if he really were to do so, do you think Buddha can really outpore his genius and wisdom and create tremendous knowledge and insights in these fields and even outperform Newton and Einstein? I appreciate your answer, thanks!

A. Before or after his enlightenment? After, such things would be of no use to him. Before, he would have made a better gardener. The spiritual soul yearns for spiritual answers, the scientific soul seeks scientific answers. Einstein's God made answers in science beautiful. If the equation did not pass this test, he knew it was still wrong. To insist Einstein meditate to enlightenment removes from him the beauty of his figures. To limit the Buddha to quantum mathematics limits his soul. Comparing apples and oranges will not get you a banana, only apples and oranges. Shana

Q. What is the symbolic value to the exposed breast of Green Tara, the Buddha of enlightened activity?

A. I've never heard of any specific symbolic value of the "exposed breast". Actually, I think you would better see it the other way round: a body in its natural state is naked, and so many pictures of buddhas and other enlightened beings are naked. If it is naked, it's just a body, but if it has clothes, then you should ask what the clothes symbolize. There are virtually no clothes and no other details in this kind of pictures that don't have symbolic meanings - clothing can be the robes of a monk or a king, the hat of a scholar, different kinds of symbolic ornaments, and so on. In this she she doesn't have clothes covering her breast, so they are just simply - breasts. You could also bear in mind that this kind of buddhas, deities, and so… [cont.]

What do you think Buddha would have thought about Jesus Christ?
Q. There are many similar quotes between the two even though they were 300 plus years apart. There is also some difference of opinion when it come to how to find salvation. Buddha believes you find your own that it comes from within and Jesus believes that he is salvation his truth of peace and love toward all. So what do you think they would have made of eachother?

Gautama Buddha (c. 563 - c. 483 BC) was a philosopher, teacher, and religious leader. "Buddha", meaning "awakened one" or "enlightened one" is a title, not a name; the Shakyamuni Buddha, whose original name was Siddhartha Gautama, was the founder of Buddhism.
