A sport is commonly defined as an organized, competitive, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing). The physical activity involves the movement of people, animals and/or a variety of objects such as balls and machines. In contrast, games such as card games and board games, though these could be called mind sports and some are recognized as Olympic sports, require only mental skills. Non-competitive activities such as jogging and rock-climbing, are usually classified as recreations. Physical events such as scoring goals or crossing a line first often define the result of a sport. However, the degree of skill in some sports such as diving, dressage and figure skating is judged according to well-defined criteria. This is in contrast with other judged activities such as beauty pageants and body-building shows, where skill does not have to be shown and the criteria are not as well defined. Accurate records are kept and updated for most sports at the highest levels, while failures and accomplishments are widely announced in sport news. Sports are most often played just for fun or for the simple fact that people need exercise to stay in good physical condition. However, professional sport is a major source of entertainment. Although they do not always succeed, sports participants are expected to display good sportsmanship, and observe standards of conduct such as being respectful of opponents and officials, and congratulating the winner when losing. Gymnastics, dance, ect are a few. However, are there any sports that women can begin over the age of 35, and still compete? I'm open to any and all possible competitions. Something physical and competitive. NOTE: I'm looking for sports/competitions that I could START after the age of 35, without ANY experience, and eventually reach competition level. Answered by @ 'll d U d d @ - Mon Mar 29 18:24:31 2010 What is the most important record in sports history?
Q. I, along with most true sports fans have long considered baseball's homerun record the most hallowed(important) sports record around. Now that all of baseball's stats have been tainted by steriods (especially Barry Binds and the HR record) what do you think is the most impprtant sports record around? Asked by ccccccc - Tue Aug 22 00:02:43 2006 - - 26 Answers - 1 Comments A. Most important? I don't think any sports record is important. Which is most impressive? There's a BIG difference. The most impressive is the record for MOST record setting career home runs. When Babe Ruth set the career Home Run Record, it was like 250. When he finished the career record was 714... so basically he hit about 460 record home runs. He was esentially three times the home run hitter of anyone that had played the game before him. In order to match that record, a player would have to hit about 1200 home runs... which will NEVER happen. Second most impressive? Cy Young's 511 wins. Or maybe it's UCLA's win streak? Johnny Van Der Meer's two consecutive no-hitters? You may not be impressed, but when will ANYBODY throw three… [cont.] Answered by baseballfan - Tue Aug 22 03:43:06 2006 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Sports" ContentsSourced
